IMD Flags Cold Wave in Five Telangana Districts as Night Temperatures Dip to 6.8°C

Cold, dry northerlies tied to a northern high-pressure zone are driving sharp nighttime cooling over the Deccan plateau.

Overview

  • Alerts cover Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Nirmal, Sangareddy and Medak for November 18, with similar conditions indicated for November 19.
  • TDPS data show a statewide average minimum of 12.9°C, about 6.6°C below normal, highlighting the intensity of the chill.
  • Between November 17 and 18, at least 11 locations fell below 10°C, led by 6.8°C in Sirpur (Kumaram Bheem Asifabad) and 7.8°C in Kohir (Sangareddy).
  • Hyderabad cooled to roughly 13–15°C and does not meet IMD’s cold-wave criteria, with IMD guiding for mist or haze and temperatures near 29°C/15°C over the next few days.
  • IMD expects the cold spell in the flagged districts to hold through Tuesday and likely into Wednesday before a gradual moderation, as health advisories urge precautions for vulnerable groups.
