Overview
- Orange alerts were issued for Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, while yellow alerts covered several Maharashtra districts including Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
- IMD projected widespread rain and thunderstorms over the southern peninsula from October 16 to 21, with squally winds of 35–45 km/h gusting to 55 km/h along and off the Kerala coast and adjoining seas.
- The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai reported heavy showers across Tamil Nadu, flooding in parts of Tirunelveli, and one-day school closures in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi.
- Mumbai was forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms on October 16–17 under an upper-air cyclonic circulation, and Navi Mumbai recorded an evening storm with an 8°C temperature drop.
- BMC reported Mumbai’s seven reservoirs at about 97% capacity, and IMD said the city’s heat is seasonal as post-monsoon conditions contribute to worsening air quality.
