Overview

• Colin Gruenke, 37, was arrested Wednesday at the Illinois State Police Chicago District office in Des Plaines and charged in a criminal complaint unsealed in U.S. District Court
• Agents recovered thumbnails of deleted child pornography on his iPhone and about 200 videos of minors being abused on a flash drive seized from his Deerfield home
• Investigators traced the probe to a September 2024 tip that someone using the Kik screen name “cgiceman” was distributing child sexual abuse material
• Court filings charge him with one count of distribution of child pornography, and local outlets report a second count of possession
• Gruenke, who joined the ISP in 2019 and refereed youth hockey, has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending his detention hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Young Kim
