Illinois State Police Seek Driver in Deadly Route 53 Hit-and-Run in Elwood

Detectives are turning to the public after finding vehicle parts at the scene.

Overview

State police say the collision occurred between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 on southbound Route 53 at Thele Road in Elwood.
Troopers were called at 8:29 a.m. on Nov. 25 and found a male bicyclist who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The striking driver left the area and has not been identified, and investigators recovered a front bumper and headlight at the site.
Police say the involved vehicle may be a black 2007–2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
