Overview

• Trivon D. Leonard Jr., 31, was charged with first-degree riot resulting in death and illegal possession of a firearm in the Sept. 15 shooting at Lake Street and 28th Avenue.
• Seven people were shot and 30-year-old Jacinda Oakgrove later died, with charging documents describing more than 30 rounds fired during a confrontation between rival sellers.
• Investigators say Leonard and associates traveled from Illinois to sell drugs, shifted from the Midtown Greenway after the city closed that area, and arrived at the encampment the night of the shooting.
• Surveillance video shows a man fleeing with a gun who matched Leonard’s clothing from his jail release hours earlier, and police say he later admitted firing before his weapon jammed and selling the gun for $200.
• Officers say Leonard was arrested with suspected fentanyl and meth, $1,000 in cash, and a fake Illinois ID, he remains jailed on high bail as the encampment site stays closed and related city legal actions continue.
