Illinois Man Arrested for Alleged Child Kidnapping Plot in Florida

Devontay Shields was detained in Chicago while attempting to travel to Miami to execute a $100,000 ransom plan.

Devontay Shields, 35, from Danville, Illinois, was arrested at Chicago's Union Station on Saturday.
Shields faces a federal charge of attempted kidnapping after allegedly plotting to abduct a child from a Fort Lauderdale school.
Federal agents began investigating Shields on November 11, following a tip-off that he intended to kidnap a boy for ransom.
Shields was found with children's toys, zip ties, and a BB gun, which he allegedly planned to use in the kidnapping.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 25, where Shields remains in federal custody pending further legal proceedings.
