Illinois Launches Mobile Driver’s Licenses in Apple Wallet

Use is limited to TSA checkpoints, participating businesses, not law-enforcement stops.

  • Feature is now live for Illinois iPhone and Apple Watch users and works at O’Hare, Midway and 250+ TSA checkpoints nationwide.

  • Businesses can accept mobile IDs using a free state verifier app that supports requests for limited data such as proof of age.
  • Digital IDs do not replace physical cards and are not accepted by police for traffic stops, and travelers are still urged to carry a physical ID.
  • Enrollment involves scanning the physical ID and a liveness selfie, credentials are encrypted on-device, state law bars phone searches after presentment, and support for Google and Samsung Wallets is planned.
