- The hotline goes live Monday, Aug. 25, at 855-805-9200 and operates Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST in English and Spanish.
- Callers can receive free, confidential legal advice and referrals on access to health care including gender-affirming care, discrimination, public benefits, identity documents, and housing or safety concerns.
- The initiative is led by the Legal Council for Health Justice in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Human Services, Equality Illinois, Life is Work, Brave Space Alliance, ALMA Chicago, and AIDS Foundation Chicago.
- Startup funding totals $350,000, including $250,000 from the state and $100,000 in philanthropic support, with state dollars committed only through next summer as partners pursue private funding.
- A pilot earlier in August drew many calls from southern Illinois seeking resources, and the line will also connect out-of-state callers with relevant services.
