Overview

• The museum closed its exhibits on June 2 and will fully shut down in July for about a year of upgrades.
• Public programs and training sessions will continue at the Skokie campus through the end of June.
• A temporary exhibition space on State Street in River North will showcase the museum’s most popular displays during the closure.
• Planned renovations feature a new visitor welcome center, redesigned auditorium, enhanced security and ticketing areas, and added restrooms.
• Officials expect a partial reopening on January 2, 2026, with full public access restored by late summer 2026.
