• Authorities say a July 21 shot fired at a bird inside a brick building in Waterloo, Illinois, passed through the bird, exited a window, and fatally struck 14-year-old Emma Schultheis outside.
• Prosecutors filed charges on Sept. 2, alleging reckless discharge of a firearm by David A. Schultheis, 34, following a review of the sheriff’s investigation.
• Schultheis voluntarily surrendered at the Monroe County Jail, was processed, and was released pending upcoming court proceedings, according to officials.
