The alleged incident occurred in September when Shannon was in Lawrence, Kansas, for a football game between Illinois and Kansas.
Shannon, who is a fifth-year senior, is considered an All-American candidate for Illinois, which is ranked No. 11 in the country.
Shannon is averaging 21.7 points per game, which is tied for the eighth-best average in the country, along with 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Shannon's attorney, Mark P. Sutter, said his client is innocent and intends to take the case to trial.
