Illinois Adds Saturday REAL ID Hours as Feb. 1 TSA Fee Nears

A coordinated push with the Cook County Clerk aims to make one-trip completion possible.

Overview

  • The Real ID Supercenter at 191 N. Clark St. in Chicago will open for walk-ins from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 17, 24 and 31.
  • At 15 DMV locations already open on Saturdays, the state has added 500 additional weekend REAL ID appointments.
  • The Cook County Clerk will provide Saturday assistance with vital records required for applications at its Loop office.
  • Beginning Feb. 1, TSA will charge a $45 fee for travelers who lack a REAL ID, passport or Global Entry, with payment available online or at the airport.
  • About 44% of Illinois license holders now have REAL IDs after roughly 1.5 million upgrades last year, and many Chicago-area DMVs require appointments booked at ilsos.gov.
