Ilaiyaraaja’s Chennai Studio Receives Hoax Bomb Email, Search Finds Nothing

Police are tracing emailed threats that mirror messages sent to other Chennai VIPs.

Overview

  • The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and sniffer dogs searched the T Nagar studio after the email and found no explosive.
  • The message was also received at the Tamil Nadu DGP’s office, prompting an immediate on-site inspection.
  • Chennai City Police and the Cyber Crime unit have opened an investigation to identify the sender and trace the email’s origin.
  • One threat was reported to have come from a Hotmail address and resembled emails sent in recent weeks to celebrities and politicians including Trisha, Vijay, Nayanthara, and senior leaders.
  • In a separate case on October 9, police arrested 37-year-old Shabik over a hoax call about a bomb at actor-politician Vijay’s residence, which was also declared false after a BDDS search.
