IITs Draft Two-Year Programme to Train Future Directors, With IIT Bombay to Lead

The government is examining a plan to nominate about 300–350 high-performing faculty for three one-week leadership modules each year over two years.

Overview

  • A draft structure and broad selection criteria have been prepared, with IIT Bombay designated to design and implement the programme.
  • Indian Institutes of Management may be asked to contribute to designing or supporting components of the training.
  • IITs would nominate only distinguished faculty based on academic and research performance for consideration.
  • Selection will emphasise research strength, a student-centric approach, strategic thinking and collaborative leadership.
  • The curriculum is expected to cover behavioural competencies, functional skills and selected domain areas, and the proposal remains under government review.
