Overview
- On Friday, June 5, IIT Roorkee initially rejected a one-time relaxation of the 75% Class 12 threshold but later the same day issued a procedural accommodation that lets affected JEE Advanced qualifiers fill choices and receive provisional JoSAA seat allotments based on rank.
- Students whose current marks are below 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) must email revised scorecards that meet the threshold to orgjee@iitr.ac.in by July 15, 2026 for their provisional allotment to be converted into confirmed admission at the end of the fourth counselling round.
- The Joint Admission Board and IIT Roorkee kept the formal eligibility unchanged, saying the rule was published in December and must apply evenly to candidates from 36 different school boards.
- The accommodation responds to wide complaints about CBSE’s new On-Screen Marking system, which students and examiners said produced blurry scans, technical glitches and unexpected score drops that slowed access to photocopies and re-evaluation services.
- A government inquiry has been set up by the Cabinet Secretariat to probe CBSE’s OSM procurement, and the final effect on admissions will depend on pending re-evaluation outcomes and whether corrected scorecards reach IIT Roorkee by the July 15 deadline.
