IIT Madras has announced the GATE 2027 schedule, introducing a new Robotics paper, revised syllabus, DigiLocker registration, facial authentication, and updated eligibility norms.

  • IIT Madras published the official GATE 2027 calendar Monday, scheduling exams across Feb. 6–21, 2027 with forenoon and afternoon sessions on the listed test dates.
  • Registration on the GOAPS portal opens August 14, 2026 and closes September 21, 2026 for submissions without a late fee, with a paid late window to September 30 and an application-correction period in mid-October.
  • A new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper will be offered in 2027 and the Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper has been moved into the Engineering Sciences (XE) sectional paper structure as part of a multi-year syllabus revision.
  • Applicants must submit only one GOAPS application and may add a permitted second paper within that single form; multiple applications will result in only one being accepted and any extra fees forfeited.
  • IIT Madras has tied DigiLocker-based registration to facial authentication to reduce impersonation at centres, a change that could alter how institutions and PSUs use GATE scores and prompt curriculum shifts in affected departments.
