  • IIT Madras has introduced a first-of-its-kind online Postgraduate Diploma in Process Safety to address workplace accidents in India's industrial sectors.
  • Applications for the programme are open until May 31, 2025, with an entrance exam scheduled for July 13, 2025.
  • The course targets professionals in manufacturing, mining, energy, and related sectors, requiring a relevant technical degree and at least two years of work experience.
  • The trimester-based programme, offered through the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), allows candidates to complete the diploma in 1–2 years while continuing their jobs.
  • In 2024, over 240 industrial accidents in India resulted in more than 400 deaths and 850 serious injuries, largely due to lapses in safety awareness and training.
