IIT Madras, Caterpillar Formalize Expanded R&D Partnership Under Global University Program

The agreement brings the long-running collaboration into Caterpillar’s Global University Partner framework to drive joint work in high-priority technologies.

  • IIT Madras and Caterpillar signed the MoU on August 8, 2025 at the IIT Madras campus, formalizing an expanded collaboration.
  • The pact targets applied research in advanced manufacturing, AI and data science, mechanical engineering, autonomous mining equipment, gas turbines and engines, and electrification via batteries and fuel cells.
  • The collaboration includes continuing education, consulting, talent development, sponsorship of innovation clubs and technical events, and student pathways for internships and full-time roles.
  • The signing involved IIT Madras leaders and Caterpillar India’s Bhuvan Anandakrishnan, with senior Caterpillar personnel in the United States joining virtually.
  • The move builds on ties dating to 2006, including a Caterpillar office established in 2008 at the IIT Madras Research Park.
