IIT Kharagpur Opens New Healthcare Training School for Rural Youth

Enrolling 150 students annually, the school’s NSQF-aligned courses will culminate in Healthcare Sector Skill Council certifications.

Overview

  • The School for Skills: Healthcare & Technology will begin classes in November 2025 with an annual intake of 150 students.
  • Core offerings include short-term certificate courses in General Duty Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician – Basic and Phlebotomist aligned with the National Skills Qualifications Framework.
  • Programmes are affiliated with the National Skill Development Corporation under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and lead to certifications from the Healthcare Sector Skill Council.
  • Graduates will support patient care at IIT Kharagpur’s Syama Prasad Mukherjee Super-Speciality Hospital and other institutions and participate in field trials of IIT-developed health technologies.
  • IIT Kharagpur has signalled future expansion of course offerings and plans to boost rural healthcare employment, particularly for women and economically disadvantaged youth.
