Overview
- After an in-principle Senate nod, IIT Kharagpur will open Science Olympiad Excellence (SCOPE) and Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) pathways starting with the 2026 intake.
- Candidates using these routes would not need a JEE rank, though standard eligibility such as passing Class 12 and adhering to JEE age limits will remain in force.
- Proposed eligibility covers participation in major international Olympiads (IMO, IPhO, IChO, IBO, IOI) or training camps, and recent medals in recognized competitions including the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Senior Nationals and Khelo India University Games.
- Seats are planned as supernumerary while a department-led committee defines scoring, document verification and coordination with JoSAA ahead of formal guidelines.
- The initiative aligns with similar non-JEE channels already in use at IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Indore.
