IIT Kanpur Selects CEC Gyanesh Kumar for 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award

Overview

  • IIT Kanpur’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the honour after reviewing his achievements, as conveyed in a Sept. 23 letter from Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal.
  • The Distinguished Alumni Award is the institute’s highest recognition for alumni contributions of exceptional merit.
  • The award will be conferred on Nov. 2, 2025, during IIT Kanpur’s 66th Foundation Day celebrations on campus.
  • Kumar has been invited to receive the honour in person, with Prof. Amey Karkare designated to coordinate programme details.
  • An IIT Kanpur civil engineering graduate and 1988‑batch IAS officer, Kumar became the 26th Chief Election Commissioner in Feb. 2024 after serving in senior roles including Secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation.
