Overview
- The ILH–IITH Bioengineering Centre of Excellence was launched on January 7 at IIT Hyderabad in partnership with the Institute for Lung Health at Justus Liebig University, Giessen.
- Renu John of IIT Hyderabad and Soni Savai Pullamsetti of ILH were named joint directors to lead the new centre.
- The programme will integrate bioengineering with clinical science to develop non-invasive diagnostics, disease models and advanced therapies while training future researchers.
- The inauguration at the IITH campus featured addresses by Director B S Murty, AIG Hospitals chairman D Nageshwar Reddy and ILH director Werner Seeger, followed by plenary talks and round-table discussions.
- Leaders cited India’s pollution-driven respiratory burden as a key driver, with the centre leveraging IITH expertise in nanobiotechnology, biomechanics, biomaterials and computational biology to advance translational lung research.
