IIT Hyderabad Confirms Record Rs 2.5 Crore Optiver Offer for Final-Year Student

The package followed a pre-placement offer after an Optiver internship routed through the institute’s career services.

Overview

  • Edward Nathan Varghese, a final-year computer science student, is set to join Netherlands-based Optiver as a software engineer in July after securing the institute’s highest-ever offer.
  • An institute video shows Varghese meeting Director B. S. Murty, where he credits the Office of Career Services and IITH’s academic model, including its fractal curriculum and mini‑projects.
  • Varghese’s offer came after a two‑month internship at Optiver, with reports noting he was one of two interns selected and the only one to receive a full‑time role.
  • IIT Hyderabad’s first placement phase reported 304 offers for 487 registered students, a 62% placement rate, with 24 international offers and an average package rising to Rs 40 lakh from Rs 20.8 lakh last year.
  • The Rs 2.5 crore package eclipses the institute’s previous peak of about Rs 1 crore in 2017, with this season also seeing two offers at Rs 1.1 crore and several PPOs between Rs 75 lakh and Rs 1 crore.
