IIT Hyderabad, Army’s SDD Sign MoU to Launch VIGRAHA Defence Tech Centre

Officials say the tie-up will accelerate self-reliant R&D for Army training technologies.

Overview

  • The agreement between IIT Hyderabad and the Army Training Command, represented by the Simulator Development Division, establishes a Centre of Excellence called VIGRAHA.
  • Research priorities include AR/VR, artificial intelligence, robotics, unmanned systems and related high-tech applications for the Armed Forces.
  • The collaboration framework covers joint academic programmes, research projects, training and certification, internships, reciprocal facility access and incubation initiatives.
  • SDD, headquartered in Secunderabad and established in 1991, serves as the Army’s nodal organisation for simulator development and is a designated AR/VR expertise centre.
  • The signing in Hyderabad included IIT-H director B. S. Murty with Prof. G. Narahari Sastry and Dr. Shiva Ji, alongside SDD’s Brig. A. K. Chaturvedi, Col. Hari Om Ahlawat and Lt. Col. Anupam Porwal.
