IIT Guwahati Confers 2,265 Degrees at 28th Convocation

The convocation signalled an institutional push to scale research funding and expand AI‑focused education.

  • IIT Guwahati conferred 2,265 degrees on Sunday, comprising 982 undergraduates, 871 postgraduates and 412 PhD or dual‑degree scholars.
  • Saptarshi Mukherjee won the President of India Gold Medal for top undergraduate performance and other top honours included the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Governor of Assam Gold Medals.
  • The institute said it is handling about 290 active research and consultancy projects valued at roughly Rs 300 crore and reported publishing about 2,478 papers in the past year.
  • IIT Guwahati launched an MTech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and announced deeper collaborations with universities in the United Kingdom and Japan to support AI research, healthcare work and student mobility.
  • Founded more than 32 years ago, the institute has produced over 26,790 alumni and its current moves could expand industry ties, joint research projects and cross‑border student exchange in the near term.
