IIT Guwahati Anchors Nationwide Manekshaw Centres for Defence Research

The centres aim to unite academic research with armed forces through a single-window governance framework.

Overview

  • Ten IITs including Guwahati, Madras and Kanpur, along with IISc Bangalore and IIIT Delhi, now host nodal Manekshaw Centres under Ministry of Education approval.
  • Prof Devendra Jalihal of IIT Guwahati leads as chief patron with Prof Manindra Agrawal and Lt Gen Dr Subrata Saha (Retd.) filling key governance roles.
  • The initiative will advance next-generation education, productisation, manufacturing and research-based consulting for national security applications.
  • Designed to support Atmanirbhar Bharat, the centres focus on indigenous development of cutting-edge defence technologies.
  • Having appointed leadership teams, the programme is now preparing industry partnerships, foreign collaborations and capacity-building workshops on emerging security challenges.
