IIT Delhi Launches First Sonipat Academic Programme in Solar Training

The one-year diploma pairs hands-on instruction with a Europe internship followed by placement into STAR-C centres to build solar deployment capacity.

Overview

  • The programme, which began Thursday, September 3, enrolled nine ISA‑nominated fellows from eight countries in a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Solar Systems and Management.
  • IIT Delhi's Department of Energy Science and Engineering runs the course in partnership with the International Solar Alliance and France's INES with sponsorship from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation.
  • Teaching is designed as applied training rather than a conventional classroom course and will be led by IIT faculty, industry experts and technical specialists to prepare fellows as trainers.
  • After finishing the diploma fellows will take a one-month internship in Europe on applied solar technologies and then be assigned to Solar Technology Application Resource Centres (STAR‑C) in their home countries.
  • IIT Delhi says the Sonipat intake is the campus's first in-person teaching programme, that more Sonipat programmes are planned, and that the effort aims to scale technical capacity across ISA's 120+ member countries.
