IIT Delhi Awards Record 530 PhDs Among 2,764 Graduates at 56th Convocation

Graduates were honored as future drivers of national innovation following the launch of advanced technology programs

  • IIT Delhi conferred 2,764 degrees and diplomas on August 2, including a record 530 doctoral qualifications.
  • The ceremony marked the first graduating class for the BTech in Energy Engineering and inaugural cohorts for MTech in Robotics and MS programs in VLSI Design and Artificial Intelligence.
  • The graduating cohort comprised 735 women—about 26% of recipients—and 43 students from nearly 20 countries, underscoring efforts to enhance diversity.
  • Two students, Shreyansh Gupta and Soumili Chakraborti, earned Perfect Ten Gold Medals for a flawless CGPA, while 16 Institute Silver Medals and top honors such as the President’s, Director’s and Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medals were also presented.
  • Presided over by Board Chair Harish Salve with chief guest Dr. Tessy Thomas, the address called on alumni to pioneer ethical innovation in decarbonisation, digital equity and bio-innovation.
