• Rohit Sinha, 22, a final-year Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science student from Delhi, died after jumping from the 10th-floor terrace of his IIT Bombay hostel at around 2:30 a.m. on August 2.
• Powai Police have registered an Accidental Death Report at the local station and are investigating the circumstances with a suicide angle under review.
• A hostel mate who was on a phone call on the terrace at the time provided a witness account and police have recorded statements from fellow students present.
• This death follows a series of student suicides at premier IIT campuses since January, leading the Supreme Court in late July to issue 15 guidelines aimed at bolstering emotional support and suicide prevention.
