IISER Scientist Dies After Assault in Mohali Parking Dispute

Abhishek Swarnkar, a 39-year-old researcher recovering from a kidney transplant, succumbed to injuries following an altercation with his neighbor over parking in Sector 67, Mohali.

Abhishek Swarnkar, a scientist at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Mohali, died after being assaulted during a parking dispute with his neighbor Monty on Tuesday night.
Swarnkar, who was recovering from a recent kidney transplant and undergoing dialysis, was pushed to the ground and punched during the altercation, as captured in CCTV footage.
He was rushed to a hospital by the accused but succumbed to his injuries during treatment; police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Swarnkar, originally from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, had an accomplished career, including international research work and recognition by the Department of Science & Technology.
The incident has drawn attention to the growing trend of violent disputes over parking in urban areas, with Swarnkar's family demanding strict action against the accused.
