IIIT Basar Moves Classes Online Over Severe Godavari Water Shortfall

University officials said low river flows with pump failures cut deliveries, causing a revised schedule that delays campus reporting, shifts midterms to late November.

Overview

  • RGUKT-Basar began online teaching on October 26, running pre-recorded lectures and live doubt-clearing sessions while postponing mass student returns to campus.
  • The institute says its campus is receiving roughly 10 lakh litres of water daily against an estimated need of about 25 lakh litres, a shortfall the administration attributes to low Godavari flows and limited pumping capacity.
  • The university released a revised academic calendar that asks PUC-1 and PUC-2 students to report on November 10, E1–E4 students to report on November 18, and schedules mid-term exams from November 19 to 21.
  • Nearly 9,000 students and about 1,000 staff are affected by the changes, and authorities have extended the Dasara break and shifted some practical and theory exam windows to late November and early December.
  • Telangana universities have placed hostels on strict water-conservation watch as officials warn that El Niño-driven rainfall deficits could prolong supply problems and force further operational adjustments.
