IHSA Resets Postponed Football Finals: 5A/6A Tuesday at ISU, 7A/8A Wednesday at NIU

ISU’s storm-related closure forced the change, keeping the championship week on a short timetable through NIU support.

Overview

  • After a National Weather Service snow warning for Bloomington–Normal, ISU closed its campus and the IHSA postponed Saturday’s Class 5A–8A title games.
  • The 5A championship (St. Francis vs. Providence) starts Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. at Hancock Stadium, followed by 6A (Fenwick vs. East St. Louis) at 6 p.m.
  • The 7A final (St. Rita vs. Brother Rice) is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 3, at NIU’s Huskie Stadium at 3 p.m., with 8A (Mount Carmel vs. Oswego) at 6 p.m.
  • IHSA said ISU faced a Wednesday scheduling conflict for 7A and 8A, so NIU agreed to host on Wednesday in DeKalb based on its long-standing relationship with the association.
  • Previously purchased tickets through the ISU ticket office will be honored at the rescheduled games, with further ticketing details to be provided by IHSA.
