IHG Apologises After Manchester Holiday Inn Turns Away Homeless Men Despite Paid Booking

The company says staff will receive extra training following the incident.

Overview

  • Two homeless men with a confirmed Booking.com reservation were refused check-in at the Holiday Inn Express on Oxford Road during temperatures near -6C.
  • A video recorded at the reception desk captured a staff member saying the hotel does not allow people “from the street.”
  • A Holiday Inn Express spokesperson said the booking should have been honoured, issued an apology and confirmed internal training measures.
  • Amanda Thompson of outreach group Two Brews paid over £200, including a £50 damage deposit, using donations and her own funds to secure two rooms.
  • After the refusal, the men were accommodated at a nearby Travelodge that also took in other rough sleepers that night.
