Overview

  • IFT’s updated Acervo Estadístico rules validated only 8.39 million BAIT lines as active based on 90-day data traffic, 57.6% fewer than the 19.8 million reported to the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores.
  • The adjustment removed over 11 million lines from BAIT’s registers and repositioned it as Mexico’s fourth largest mobile operator behind Telcel, AT&T and Movistar.
  • BAIT missed its quarterly IFT filing for the first time in 12 quarters, risking fines of up to 53 million pesos under the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law.
  • In the first quarter of 2025, BAIT’s revenue rose 65% year-over-year to 2.29 billion pesos, driven by strong subscriber growth.
  • Altán Redes’ unilateral tariff increase earlier this year has pushed up BAIT’s wholesale network costs and could strain its low-price offerings.
