IFOP Poll Shows French Doubt Future of Collective Civility

  • A vast majority agree that respecting communal rules defines good citizenship (95%) and that respect for others regardless of origin is essential (89%), with 87% also citing environmental stewardship.
  • Everyday incivilities remain common, as 67% admit to speeding and 41% to unauthorized parking, while views on disrespecting law enforcement vary sharply across political affiliations.
  • Police and gendarmes are seen as the most exemplary civic actors (73%), and the Passeport du Civisme initiative has been rolled out in 500 communes to reward student engagement in civic actions.
