Overview

  • The IED detonated on August 10 near Spezand Railway Station in Mastung district, derailing six carriages of the train shortly after its 9am departure from Quetta.
  • Five passengers sustained minor injuries in the blast and derailment, and there were no fatalities, officials said.
  • Security forces and police cordoned off the site while bomb disposal squads cleared the tracks and a relief train returned stranded passengers to Quetta.
  • Services of both the Jaffar Express and Bolan Mail will remain suspended until August 14, with the Bolan Mail scheduled to resume on August 16.
  • The latest attack follows a string of Balochistan Liberation Army assaults on the Jaffar Express this year as part of a campaign to press separatist demands and disrupt rail services.
