Overview
- In mid-October the Instituto Electoral de la Ciudad de México (IECM) formally opened a call for citizen electoral observers for the Local Ordinary Electoral Process 2026–2027.
- Prospective observers must submit an application, a current voter ID and an express declaration of impartiality and may not have ties to political parties or organizations.
- The IECM will offer training in three formats—in-person, distance (videoconference) and virtual courses—so accredited observers can complete instruction ahead of the election.
- The IECM and the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) are promoting the 'Mi INE, mi voto desde donde esté' app and an adapted microsite to register Mexicans abroad, with registration open from September 1, 2026 to February 25, 2027.
- Registered expatriate voters can choose postal, electronic or in-person voting and track their requests through a folio system in the app, while accredited observers will be able to file post-election reports once the process concludes.
