IDFA Finalizes 2025 Lineup With 250 Films and a Shorts-Led Opening

Fernandez’s first edition foregrounds politically urgent stories through formally adventurous work.

Overview

  • Running November 13–23 in Amsterdam, the 38th IDFA will present roughly 250 titles from 76 countries across its public and industry programs.
  • The International and Envision competitions each feature 12 films, with numerous world or international premieres including Victor Kossakovsky’s Trillion and Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk’s Silent Flood.
  • The festival opens with three short films: As I Lay Dying by Mohammadreza Farzad and Pegah Ahangarani, Intersecting Memory by Shayma' Awawdeh, and Happiness by Firat Yücel.
  • Premiere-only sections Luminous and Frontlight spotlight urgent subjects, with highlights such as the phone-shot prison film Do or Die, House of Hope set in the West Bank, and Gaza’s Twins, Come Back to Me.
  • The IDFA Forum runs November 16–19 with 51 projects across Producers Connection, Forum Pitch, Rough Cut Presentations and DocLab Forum, while DocLab showcases 12 new‑media works spanning VR, AR, AI and interactive formats.
