Overview
- ICE has gained access to ISO ClaimSearch, a commercial database containing over 1.8 billion insurance claims and 58 million medical bills.
- The database holds sensitive personal information including names, addresses, telephone and tax identification numbers, and license plate details.
- ISO ClaimSearch was originally designed for insurers to detect fraud and for police to recover stolen vehicles.
- A March executive order on federal data sharing and a May ICE–IRS agreement enabled agents to repurpose the database for immigration enforcement.
- Many individuals are unaware that their private insurance and medical data can be used to target them for deportation.
