  • The collision occurred on June 8 at about 8 p.m. when ICE 412, traveling around 300 km/h, hit a horse that fled a drag hunt near Deesen in Westerwaldkreis.
  • Emergency braking brought the train to a stop 1.2 kilometers later at Montabaur station, where it underwent an initial damage assessment.
  • Despite sustaining damage, the ICE proceeded to a nearby DB-Regio workshop for further inspection and repairs.
  • Bundespolizei, Landespolizei, firefighters and THW crews cleared the tracks and reopened the Cologne–Frankfurt line by 11:26 p.m.
  • Authorities have identified and notified the horse’s owner as they continue their investigation into the animal’s escape and the circumstances of the collision.
