ICE Says Napa Crash Suspect Was Deported Multiple Times as California Rebuts Sanctuary Claim

California’s governor’s office rejected ICE’s assertion that state sanctuary laws contributed to the fatal wreck.

Overview

  • Norberto Celerino, 53, is charged with six counts of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and DUI in the Sept. 7 Pope Valley crash.
  • Authorities say a Toyota minivan carrying eight people struck a tree; six passengers died and the driver and one other passenger survived.
  • All six victims were farmworkers from the Stockton area, and the coroner identified them as Loreto Ricardo Hernandez, Fernando Silverio, Araon Ruiz Ruiz, Beymar Reynosa Rodriguez, Demetrio Celerino Francisco, and Pedro Lopez Gomez.
  • ICE identified the man as Beto Cerillo-Bialva and said he had been removed from the U.S. multiple times and previously arrested for cocaine possession and DUIs.
  • Prosecutors say the defendant used multiple aliases, had DUI convictions in 2020 and 2024 with an older conviction, lacked a valid driver’s license, and admitted to drinking earlier that day.
