ICE Reports Record October Arrests as Immigration Detention Hits New High

Newly released shutdown-period data attribute the surge to expanded funding, stricter detention rules, internal pressure for larger sweeps.

Overview

  • ICE and CBP recorded 41,641 arrests in October, the highest monthly total since the start of President Trump’s second term.
  • More than 65,000 people are now in immigration custody, with detention capacity expanded to about 69,000 beds yet still below the administration’s goal of exceeding 100,000.
  • Across the government shutdown window from 1 October to 15 November, ICE tallied roughly 54,000 arrests and detentions and carried out about 56,000 deportations as operations continued nationwide.
  • Agency data show a large share of those held or arrested lack criminal records, including nearly 31,000 detainees without convictions or pending charges and more than 21,000 arrests of people with no criminal history during the shutdown period.
  • Reporting points to internal directives pushing for 3,000 daily arrests and guidance to detain collateral targets, alongside redeployment of border personnel and broader local cooperation in interior operations.
