ICE says the surge targets convicted violent offenders to protect public safety.

Overview

  • ICE on Saturday released a named roster from its Minnesota enforcement surge, labeling the arrestees the “worst of the worst” and detailing convictions for child sexual abuse and homicide.
  • Those identified include Sriudorn Phaivan, Tou Vang, and Chong Vue, whom ICE says were previously convicted of sexual offenses against minors.
  • ICE also listed multiple people with prior homicide convictions, including Gabriel Figueroa Gama, Abdirashid Adosh Elmi, Gilberto Salguero Landaverde, Galuak Michael Rotgai, Mariama Sia Kanu, and Thai Lor.
  • DHS posted a photo of a plane with the caption “Lawbreakers going wheels up in Minneapolis,” and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt publicly praised ICE agents for the arrests.
  • Minnesota Democrats escalated criticism after a recent enforcement-related fatal shooting, with Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Rep. Ilhan Omar participating in protests and challenging ICE’s tactics.
