ICE, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Say I-40 Sweep Netted 120 Arrests, Most Were CDL Truckers

Overview

  • ICE and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol conducted a Sept. 22–25 operation along western Oklahoma’s I-40 that produced about 520 traffic contacts and real-time records checks.
  • Officials reported 120 arrests for immigration violations, including 91 commercial drivers with CDLs, 27 occupants of passenger vehicles, and two people at a nearby marijuana grow.
  • ICE said 80 of the 91 truck drivers had entered the U.S. unlawfully or were awaiting asylum hearings, and one had a final removal order.
  • Among the CDL drivers, the top citizenships were India (39), Uzbekistan (13) and China (12), and their licenses were issued mainly by California (44), New York (14), Pennsylvania (12) and Illinois (11).
  • Troopers involved were credentialed under ICE’s 287(g) Task Force Model, and ICE indicated similar enforcement actions will continue nationwide.
