Overview

  • Federal agents from ICE, DHS, FBI and DEA executed four search warrants in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, administratively arresting 44 people and using tactical gear and armored vehicles in a paramilitary-style operation.
  • Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building and other targets, blocking entrances, throwing objects and chanting for detainees while LAPD officers declared an unlawful assembly and deployed tear gas, pepper spray and flash-bang grenades.
  • The Los Angeles Police Department reiterated its policy barring officers from assisting in mass deportations or determining individuals’ immigration status, responding only to public safety calls and crowd control.
  • On Saturday, ICE and U.S. Border Patrol personnel expanded enforcement into Paramount, where agents in riot gear deployed tear gas to disperse onlookers and made additional arrests.
  • Mayor Karen Bass condemned the raids for sowing terror in immigrant communities, while ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino defended the operations, pledging ongoing arrests of criminal undocumented migrants and accountability for obstruction.
