Overview
- An exterior door on ICE 528 opened while the train ran through the Schönrain tunnel, forcing an automatic full emergency brake and a halt during the Munich–Dortmund service.
- Emergency crews launched a large search of the track with about 300 personnel plus drones, a helicopter with thermal imaging and dog teams to check for anyone who might have been pulled from the train.
- No injured people were found and all 238 passengers were accounted for after front coaches were transferred to replacement buses and rear coaches were rechecked by police.
- The train was driven to Lohr am Main for a technical investigation and police recorded passenger identities and interviewed travelers as potential witnesses.
- Investigators have not yet determined why the door opened, so officials are focusing on technical fault checks and witness statements to establish cause and any safety implications.
