Overview

• On July 15, ICE agents stopped and arrested 38-year-old Mahdi Khanbabazadeh outside Guidepost Montessori in Beaverton during the morning drop-off period
• Agents broke a car window to complete the arrest after Khanbabazadeh refused to exit his vehicle and ICE reports that his child was not harmed
• Khanbabazadeh legally entered the U.S. in 2017 on a student visa, married a U.S. citizen, has an approved I-130 petition and awaits a decision on his I-485 adjustment
• The detention follows the Trump administration’s early-2025 rescission of 2011 guidance barring ICE arrests at schools and other sensitive locations
• Guidepost Global Education is reviewing its campus security protocols and immigration advocates are monitoring his pending removal proceedings
