Overview

  • Assemblymember Catalina Cruz said Tuesday the pair were deported to Ecuador, citing congressional liaisons, and DHS did not immediately comment.
  • DHS previously identified the mother as Martha Yolanda Lojano-Guallpa and said the family entered unlawfully in December 2022 and received final removal orders.
  • The mother and child were earlier moved to the Dilley, Texas, family detention center, while 19-year-old Manuel remains in ICE custody at Delaney Hall in Newark, advocates say.
  • Gov. Kathy Hochul condemned the arrests, demanded the family’s return to New York, and pressed for transparency and access to detention areas at Federal Plaza.
  • City Hall filed an amicus brief challenging federal arrests of people attending mandatory immigration proceedings, as ICE expands enforcement at 26 Federal Plaza following a DHS policy reversal on sensitive locations.
