ICE Confirms Deportations After DHSFBI Trafficking Sweep in Kenosha and Illinois

Federal secrecy limited local involvement, prompting the sheriff to seek better advance notice.

Overview

  • A Nov. 19 federal human-trafficking operation yielded 20 arrests in the City of Kenosha and in Illinois, stemming from a Chicago-area probe.
  • The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI led the action and staged portions at the Kenosha Public Safety Building.
  • The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and Kenosha Police Department said they were not asked to assist, and ICE was not part of the operation.
  • ICE contacted the sheriff’s office on Nov. 26 and confirmed that all arrested noncitizens connected to the action have been deported.
  • Sheriff David Zoerner corrected online rumors about a large local police presence and asked for advance notice from federal partners to address community concerns.
