• ICE identified the detainee as Ismael Ayala-Uribe, 39, a Mexican national who was pronounced dead at Victor Valley Global Medical Center after being transferred from the Adelanto ICE Processing Center.
• Ayala-Uribe was arrested during an enforcement operation on August 17 and moved to Adelanto on August 22 for immigration proceedings, according to ICE.
• ICE said he was evaluated on September 18, then sent to the hospital three days later for an abscess and was noted as hypertensive with abnormal tachycardia before being declared unresponsive at 1:48 a.m. and deceased at 2:32 a.m.
• The cause and manner of death remain under investigation by ICE, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is conducting its own inquiry.
• ICE said it will comply with legal requirements to publicly report in-custody deaths, as advocates and members of Congress cite longstanding concerns about care and conditions at Adelanto and other facilities.
